Founded in 2004 as the principal source of music for DJs, Beatport today is the worldwide home of electronic music for DJs, producers, and their fans. The Beatport Store offers music in premium digital formats and provides unique music discovery tools created for and by DJs. Each week, Beatport’s music collection is refreshed with hundreds of exclusive tracks by the world’s top electronic music artists.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As Database Administrator at Beatport, you will apply your knowledge and expertise in database administration to address business and technology needs. Reporting to the Director of Data Services, you will be a member of the Data Services scrum team, which is responsible for operations of Beatport’s OLTP, OLAP, and Data Warehouse database environments. You will also work closely with Infrastructure Engineering team to accomplish installation, upgrade and maintenance initiatives.

SOME OF THE THINGS YOU WILL BE DOING:

Install, configure, patch and upgrade database instances
Ensure high performance and availability of database instances
Collect and analyze server performance metrics
Capacity monitoring and planning
Manage the implementation of backup and recovery procedures
Manage security strategy, including users, roles, privileges and authentication
Manage test and staging database environments
Develop and execute DDL/DML statements
Participate in SQL review process
Assist Data Services team with ad-hoc requests
Document and maintain database standards, including naming conventions
Stay on top of the latest tools and technologies
Compile and maintain a DBA handbook for the organization
Provide on call support

SOME OF THE SKILLS WE NEED YOU TO BRING:

4+ years experience working as a DBA
Strong knowledge of Structured Query Language
Solid understanding of performance tuning and capacity planning
Solid understanding of storage engines in MySQL/MariaDB
Experience with replication and configuration management strategies
Experience with AWS
Understanding of database triggers
Environment management (development/staging/production)
Adequate Linux systems administration experience to perform DBA tasks
Experience with large data sets and strategies to deal with them
Experience with a scripting language
Ability to effectively document and present technical concepts
Strong communication skills
Extremely detail oriented

SOME OF THE SKILLS WE WOULD LIKE TO YOU TO HAVE:

Experience with Agile methodologies
Experience with Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Scientific Linux/Ubuntu)
Experience with configuration management (Puppet/Ansible)
Experience with source control tools (GitHub/Git)
Experience with Apache Solr or ElasticSearch
Experience with multi-master replication

WE WOULD BE REALLY EXCITED IF YOU BRING:

Experience with Hadoop and NoSQL
Python development
Shell scripting
Music industry experience
We have offices in Denver and Berlin, so being able to work collaboratively over Flowdock, Zoom and Google Hangouts is a must. Applicants must be authorized to work in Germany.
